Wicca 101 - Tools - Air

This week for my Wicca 101 series I am starting s mini series on tools. This is such a big subject, I decided to break it into several parts focusing on the tools associated with each of the elements - air, fire, water and earth. I will then talk about where you can get tools and how to cleanse, consecrate and care for them. The first is about tools associated with air.

Beltane Astrology Forecast

This Friday May 01 is the celebration known as May Day or Beltane in pagan circles. It is the first fire festival of the year and is opposite of Halloween or Samhain on the wheel of the year. While Samhain focuses on endings and death, Beltane is about fertility and life. Here on the Canadian prairies, the grass is just starting to turn green, buds are forming on the trees and people are getting their gardens ready for planting later in the month. It's a great time to celebrate the arrival of spring!

For those of us who are pagans and celebrate the day, I thought I would give a little astrological forecast to help you with any spell work. This May Day the moon is almost full (it will be on Sunday the 3rd), making it a great time for manifesting your desires. The moon is in Libra, which is ruled by Venus, as is Taurus the sign the Sun is currently in. This makes it a great day for working on spells involving self love, art or beauty. Use the day to focus on appreciating yourself and recognizing your own inner beauty. With the moon in balanced Libra and Sun in patient Taurus it is a great time for adding energy to any long term goals involving partnerships as well.

The Libra moon will be opposite Uranus, the planet of sudden insights and changes, and square Pluto, the planet of transitions. Surprises may throw you off guard and you may emotionally resist any changes you will have to make because of this. Jupiter is sextile the moon though, so if you can recognize the opportunity in these changes, all will be well.
With the Taurus Sun sextile Uranus and trine Pluto, you might emotionally resist any changes, but you are also conscious of how it may help you in the long run. So it again says you can turn any disruptions for the best.

Mercury steps into one of its home signs Gemini on this day, placing emphasis on communication. It is opposite Retrograde Saturn, so be prepared for opposition to some of your ideas, especially if it involves changing rules or organization.
Venus is in the sign of Gemini too at this time, making it a great day for communicating with your loved one. Use the Venus energy and the moon and sun energy in her home signs (Libra and Taurus respectively) to have heart to heart talks about your long term plans together.

Monthly Update April

I know I haven't blogged in a couple of weeks and I'd like to apologize for that. I took the first full week of April off, and got sick with a terrible flu for two weeks. :( it seems like for the past year every time I take a week off work I get ill. Maybe my body is telling me I need more rest?
On the bright side I was recovered enough by last weekend to be able to attend my first psychic fair as a reader! It was about an hour and a half away from the city in a little town called Altamont. My friend Moss Chloe graciously agreed to be my lovely assistant.

The drive out was nice as it was good to get out into the country, even if everything is still brown and not quite green yet here. The land is very flat around the city, but once you get to the town we were going to, it gets into hills and we saw lots of windmills and even some sheep and a llama.

The fair itself was a great success with lots of locals coming out and getting readings done. We had lots of fun meeting people and will be back next year again. Here was our little set up.

Besides the psychic fair, I have been reading cards by appointment at Radiance Gifts
And have had a few more appointments this month. I really enjoy reading for people. I love being able to help bring them messages and guidance from Spirit.
I was also interviewed for a podcast called Beyond the Handle
. The host interviews Winnipegers with Twitter followers. He usually talks to those who have a focus on sports, but sometimes he gets other people, it's a real variety of topics. My interview will air this Monday April 27th.
Now that I'm recovering, I hope to get back on track with my blogging and blogging schedule.

Book Review - the Crystal Bible by Judy Hall

While I have always loved crystals, I just recently commuted myself to learn more about them. I picked up the Crystal Bible by Judy Hall as it looked like a good general book to start learning about them.

The first section of the book discusses how crystals are formed, and how to care for your crystals. The second part of the book is by far the biggest section. It is an alphabetical resource of over 200 crystals. Each entry has photos of the crystal including different colour variants. This helps with identifying your stones. There is also a handy chart discussing colours, appearance, rarity and countries they are sourced from.
The body of the entry is divided into attributes, healing attributes and position to wear them. If there are colour variants, their attributes are listed as well.
Finally the last section of the book has a large write up on the different shapes crystals come in and how you can best use these shapes. This is followed by a reference guide to using crystals for healing purposes.
This book is 383 pages of great basic crystal information. The alphabetical order and excellent photos make for easy reference, and each entry contains a wealth of info about the stones attributes.
I find myself going back to it to look up new stones as I get them, so I know how to best use them. I would definitely recommend this book of you are just starting to get into crystals.

Putting Spring Into Your Dark Wardrobe

Spring is in the air, even here on the Canadian prairies where it often comes later than in most parts of the world. While flowers aren't quite blooming here yet, the snow is mostly melted and the birds are coming back. I've put away the winter coat and the heavy winter boots and am looking to put a little spring back into my wardrobe, but don't want to compromise my spooky look either.
I was looking around Etsy and Pintrest and found a lot of inspiration in pastel goth looks. While I personally wouldn't go all out with this look, I think certain elements can help "spring up" your spooky look.

A bold way to brighten up your gothy look is dying your hair a pastel pink, blue, purple or teal, or a bright blue or pink or purple. It is a commitment though, so make sure it is a colour you love. On the bright side (no pun intended) you can continue to don all black and still have a touch of spring.

This is probably the easiest way to add a little colour. You can put some spring colours into your eye shadow while pairing it with a dark lipstick. Or you can go the opposite way and pair dark eye shadow with a pastel lipstick.

I'm not brave enough for the pastel lipstick, but there are others who can definitely carry it off.

Another easy way, is to add a few colourful accessories to your dark look, like these pastel bats. Wether it's colourful bracelets, pendants or earrings, you can add colour while still keeping a spooky theme. Check out these stockings with cute pastel bats. It's like spring and Halloween smashed together.

Flower Crowns
This is probably the one accessory that says springtime the most to me. These have been ridiculously popular the past couple of years, so it's easy to find them in mainstream shops. You can even get ones with spikes on them.

I hope this has given you a few ideas. I've added a little colour to my eyeshadow today to "spring it up" a little bit.

Wicca 101 - Getting to Know the Gods

I thought I would make a video about getting to know gods and goddesses on a more personal level. Let me know your thoughts.
